Hints and Suggestions for Team Members
- When packing, take into account the type of activities you will be involved in. Old work clothes are in order for heavy manual work.
- Take easy-care clothing, which is easily washed personally and in cold water.
- Use only containers that can be tightly sealed and will not break while in luggage.
- Carry toothbrush and toothpaste, deodorant, and a change of underwear in carry-on luggage in case luggage is lost or travel is for many hours.
- Leave room in your luggage for team materials and souvenirs on returning.
- Label clothing in case it is washed with others’.
- Take minimal cosmetics.
- Take minimal jewelry—Buy a $9.00 watch for the trip.
- Take leisure reading books.
- Take notebooks for journaling.
- Take pencils and pens—have a couple handy for filling out forms while traveling.
- Take hand sanitizers—if in liquid form, be sure that it is in less than 3 oz. containers.
- Take toilet seat covers.
- (Don’t over-do any of the above.)
- Take medications in original bottles.
- Wear medical identification bracelets if appropriate.
- Ask the team leader if you can take items to missionaries items—they may need personally.
- Take Tums, Pepto-Bismol, etc. if you use them. They may not be available overseas.
- Take cereal bars, snacks, etc. especially in carry-on luggage as food times can be irregular.
- Establish a fund raising plan that will enable friends and family to support your ministry.
- Look for sales on equipment, film, batteries, etc. well in advance of the trip.
- If needed get electrical adapter plug kit. (available in international airports/discount stores.)
- Don’t offer information to immigration, customs, etc. officials; rather answer truthfully and directly any questions they ask.
- Remember that laptops are cumbersome and susceptible to damage. Using them for Internet connection on the ministry site is very unlikely.
